Barnfield Phase 2

The Phase 2 works focused on the design and build of a four-storey concrete frame building, dedicated to specialist construction and engineering teaching. The building includes a variety of teaching spaces, staff areas, breakout zones, and is supported by external works including landscaping, car parking, and pedestrian walkways.

I led the interior design development from concept through to completion. This included developing initial layout proposals, selecting finishes and specifications, and ensuring the design aligned with both the architectural vision and the college’s educational needs. I engaged in regular client and stakeholder meetings, contributing directly to decision-making and ensuring that every design move was informed by user needs and operational requirements.

Multiple site visits to the existing Hemel Hempstead campus helped shape a responsive design approach, tailored to the daily experience of both students and staff. I was responsible for delivering the full FF&E package, including final finishes boards and specifications, which were well received and successfully implemented.

This was my first live project to reach completion, and I was actively involved at every stage meeting tight deadlines, collaborating with the wider design team, and ensuring quality and consistency throughout. Seeing the project delivered on time and in line with the original design intent was a key professional milestone.
